Laid Off: My New Career Opportunity...
June 30 - poof, out the door after 21 years with the City of Santa Barbara's Parks and Recreation Department. I posted this article at my bi-weekly Edhat.com column. What floors me is the response from my community. I'm having a Sally Field moment: "You like me! You REALLY like me!"
One door closes and a whole bunch more open. Read on for recipes on making lemons into lemon sorbet.

LOL, Sally Field may feel differently until you delete the "s" from her last name! :-) Happy New Phase of Your Life!
Ah Billy, I'm sorry to hear this, but after reading your links, I see you've got a lot of new opportunities. Hang in there in the transition. Congrats on the Fine Gardening gig.~~Dee
Way cool...
and I'll be able to say, "Yeah, I left smart-ass comments on his blog before he was famous..."
Good job.
One of the 1st people to help me along in the blogging world when I got LAID OFF... Thanks so much for your help and quick intro into the blogging world. Also your great words of wisdom from the Garden world are always inspiring.
I know that you will be fine, so the best of luck in whatever you do! It's the scary and fun feeling! I had it for 6 months... now I hate my new job.
I wish you the best. I work in architecture firm, we've gone from 305 to 154 employees. I am sick of seeing good people let go. It's not the companies fault. They are doing everything possible to keep afloat. Things have got to turn around. I am glad to read you have some irons in the fire, so to speak. Keep being a smart @$$!
Sorry to hear about your being laid off ... Found out this week that my job role no longer exists as well ....
Good luck with your new opportunities :O)
